USING LESS RESOURCES FOR BETTER INGREDIENTS
When it comes to Green Science and skincare, sometimes less is more. For example, at Domaine de la Rose, Lancôme’s sustainable rose farm and open-air lab for Green Science in the south of France, we use as much of each rose bush as possible, well beyond their petals. After the initial harvest in May, as part of a “zero waste” approach, key ingredients for skincare products are extracted from the rose’s stems and roots using Green Science Technology. We can even use biotechnology to use a living organism such as a plant or a bacterium as a "micro-factory" to create new ingredients instead of depleting its natural source. For us, Green Science is exciting and rewarding and make the future of Green Beauty bright.

THE START OF TECH INSPIRED BEAUTY
When we think of tech, we tend to imagine fiddling away in a modern lab. But at Lancôme tech begins in the terroir, or land. The polyculture systems in place at Domaine de la Rose use science and engineering, new and old, for our plants to thrive. Plants inserted between others created natural barriers against parasites, while the sheep that roam the land are natural weeders, loosening the land and fertilizing as they graze. These and other processes put in plants are the roots of tech. They begin in our fields long before the fruits of our labor reach the lab, with the age-old natural cycles we have grown to understand and cultivate at Domaine de la Rose.

DOMAINE DE LA ROSE: AN OPEN LAB FOR GREEN SCIENCE
Nestled between the mountains and the sea in the south of France, Lancôme has created a shelter for biodiversity and a home for our Green Science to grow. Here, Lancôme steps outside the laboratory and into open air to put into practice a range of initiatives that make beauty more green and the world a more beautiful place.
At Domaine de la Rose, eco certified organic agriculture is combined with a self sufficient irrigation system and a regenerative agricultural eco-system to grow the purest Centifolia Rose. Used for our fragrances and skincare, the field-to-bottle approach of our Centifolia Rose harvest allows for a short circuit production with less environmental impact.
This is just one of the many ways Green Science grows at Domaine de La Rose. Here, on unspoiled land, biodiversity can thrive alongside science proving that it goes hand in hand with nature, not just for the betterment of beauty, but for the world.
