Somewhere in the south of France lies one of Lancôme’s greatest treasures. You’re on the right path if you spot a hint of pink nestled in the hills between the mountains and the sea. Here in Grasse, the perfume capital of the world, you’ll find Domaine de la Rose. This is Lancôme’s new home and it’s our pleasure to invite you to discover a place where biodiversity and innovation bring our brand commitments to life.
Lancôme wants to cultivate happiness together, to bring you products with a positive impact for your beauty and for the world. Nowhere do we see these two goals come together more than at our Domaine de la Rose. The rose has long been the symbol of Lancôme. More than just an inspiration, it’s also our most iconic ingredient that has pushed us forward in beauty innovation since our founding.
AN EXCLUSIVE HOME FOR BEAUTY INNOVATION
Domaine de la Rose is more than just a beautiful place for flowers to bloom. It’s our exclusive home for beauty innovation. First, step inside Rose House. Joyfully painted pink, we’ve restored the main house in a modern style with local and recyclable bio-based materials. We’ve made room for innovation here starting with the pedagogical distillery for Lancôme’s scent savoir-faire and scientific innovation to be shared. Venture further and you’ll discover the perfumer’s organ for fragrance composition.
Outside, innovation takes center stage across nearly 10 acres of land where we develop polyculture farming. New and traditional farming methods come together to make a place for our centifolia rose to thrive, all while using innovation to reduce our environmental impact and give back to this beautiful land we are lucky enough to call home. We have even partnered with The French National Natural History Museum to foster scientific research and share knowledge. Through science and experimentation here at Domaine de la Rose, Lancôme has created a beautiful space for innovation and our brand commitments to grow.
MOVING TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE BEAUTY
Lancôme is always striving for more sustainable beauty products. At Domaine de la Rose, we ensure that centifolia roses used in our fragrances, skincare, and makeup give back to the land as much as they take. We know that by producing them here, they are coming from a renewable source thanks to regenerative agriculture practices where we combine traditional farming techniques with scientific innovation. Thanks to Domaine de la Rose’s self-sufficient irrigation system, this optimal hydrology system brings efficient freshness to the already rich soil without having to import water. The walls of the main house have even been insulated with a combination of lavender straw and wood fiber and painted with natural lime plaster to reduce environmental impact. Across the land, we have also introduced additional species of plants and animals to optimize the biodiversity of Domaine de la Rose. All in all, each year Domaine de la Rose produces 4 to 6 tons of organic and sustainable centifolia roses.
BIODIVERSITY AT DOMAINE DE LA ROSE
At the heart of this place is biodiversity – nature’s blueprint for success. At Domaine de la Rose we let nature do its greatest work, allowing for local species to flourish. We have reintroduced endemic species from ancient Grasse estates, so we can help regenerate and preserve them for future generations. In fact, Domaine de la Rose is currently home to over 250 plant and animal species such birds, bees, insects, and reptiles that live in harmony. All agriculture here is eco-certified organic ensuring that nature goes unharmed by chemicals. This ecosystem bustling with biodiversity also allows for our centifolia roses to grow abundantly, producing a plentiful harvest of this precious ingredient in a place where positive beauty begins. Domaine de la Rose is our positively pink emblem of our brand commitment to biodiversity.
INGREDIENT SOURCING FOR INNOVATION
Exploring ethical and environmentally friendly sourcing is one of our greatest sources of innovation to make beauty more sustainable. Ingredient sourcing is one of the most essential parts of the production process and can be incredibly impactful when it comes to the footprint of our products. That’s why we’ve chosen sourcing as one of our focuses for brand innovation. We have taken it to heart and put our brand commitment to cultivate happiness into action at Domaine de la Rose. Appreciating the preciousness of these ingredients and where they come from pushes us towards innovation everyday with green sciences and biotechnology to limit their use.

FOR THE FIRST TIME: PRODUCER, PERFUMER, & PROTECTOR
Lancôme acknowledges that we have a role to play every step of the way. While Lancôme began as perfumers, we are learning at our new home, Domaine de la Rose, that as producers we can also be protectors. Protectors of biodiversity, advocates for sustainable agriculture, and leaders in innovation and green beauty science. In doing so we are one step closer to sustainable beauty, and achieving our everyday goal of spreading happiness.
